A post failed to publish: how to resend it

Before resending, read what the error says. Half of all failures are an expired authorization — and resending without reconnecting just fails again.

Updated July 26, 2026

When a post fails, CutPro shows you in the Calendar what happened and what to do — the message already carries the right action. Resending without reading tends to repeat the failure.

The four kinds of failure

Kind Example What fixes it
Authorization "Session expired", account disconnected Reconnect the account
Configuration A required field for the network is missing, privacy not allowed Edit the post
Network limit Daily quota reached, Reels limit in 24h Wait — the system usually reschedules it
Temporary Timeout, platform instability Try again

The system already retries on its own

Most temporary failures never reach you. CutPro automatically requeues network errors, timeouts and platform instability, with growing waits between attempts. When an item is in that state, the Calendar shows "Retrying at…" with the time of the next attempt.

Instagram limits are also rescheduled automatically, hourly, for a few attempts.

What is not retried automatically: authorization errors and configuration errors. That makes sense — repeating wouldn't fix them; someone has to reconnect or correct something.

There's also a safeguard against duplicate posts: before repeating an ambiguous attempt (the ones where there's no way to know whether it published), CutPro checks whether the content already went live. When in doubt, it does not publish again — duplicating is worse than missing.

Resending manually

On the failed item, use Try again. The post goes back into the queue with the text and settings it already had.

If the error was an authorization one, reconnect first: resending with the account still disconnected produces the exact same failure. See connecting your social accounts.

When there's nothing to be done — a permanent error — the only action offered is deleting the item.

A "partial" post

A post sent to several accounts can end up partial: part published, part failed. That's neither success nor total failure.

In that case, handle each failed account individually: reconnect the one that lost authorization, fix the one with a configuration problem, and resend. The ones that already published stay as they are.

Errors that confuse people

"The render hasn't finished yet." The clip wasn't ready at publish time. This sorts itself out: CutPro tries again later. If it persists, the problem is the render — see my render failed or is taking too long.

Instagram stripped the caption. This happens when the network detects repeated text across many accounts. The post did publish, just without the caption. The prevention is the automatic text variation, which CutPro turns on by itself above ten accounts.

The Instagram account went personal. Publishing via API requires a Professional account. Convert it in the Instagram app and reconnect.

TikTok published as "Only me". Not an error: while CutPro's app is under review by TikTok, that's the privacy the platform allows.

Prevention that works

The number one cause of a scheduled post failing is an expired authorization. Before a week with a lot scheduled, take a look at the Disconnected accounts block — it tells you how many scheduled posts will fail if you don't reconnect. Two minutes there prevents most support tickets.
